About Me

Welcome. I’m Amanda. I’m a professional organizer and own LHL. I focus on organization and decluttering for Home and Business needs. I am also an Amazon Associate. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

I’ve discovered that our homes can be a wonderful landing place, a place we never want to leave, or a reason to never come home depending on how overwhelmed we feel about it. I’d love to help you figure out how to build the perfect balance for you in your own home or business.

The business name LHL is short for LighterHappierLiving which for me is based on my personal goal to live life lighter; light-of-heart and spirit as well as physically and mentally. To live our lives with a happy-go-lucky attitude.

I ran into health issues that complicated my life dramatically and were at least exacerbated by stress, if not actually caused by it. I won’t go into that here but the blog focuses on my journey to find that light-hearted spirited version of myself and improve all aspects of my life. You will find the blog divided into three parent categories Mind, Body, and Spirit. Organization topics are under Mind as cluttered spaces increase stress which is initially a Mind issue. However, you will find many other useful tags for Meal Planning posts and other series.

In 2018, I started house-hunting. During this process, I learned the value of envisioning the life I wanted while not denying who I was in reality. It was fascinating to me that I was able to find a home that put me in a great location for the life I wanted as well as meeting my lifestyle where I was. This is the approach I take in my professional practice. Many of us have things we thought we’d like or wanted to like around, but in reality, we’re not going to use them. I can help you cut through what is realistic to hang onto, without cutting down your desire to continue to grow.

What it means to be lighter and happier

I believe that the Mind, including mindset and mental load, is key to living lighter. If we are burdened by mindsets that aren’t serving us then they have to go. Likewise, my brain injury taught me that our minds are handling so many decisions every day including what not to pay attention to. This leads to unnecessary stress. This is where I can really help you.

Plenty of very organized people hire professional organizers and typically because their life is extra complicated or they hit a particular space that they can’t see their own way through. I can help you find the solution and help you modify the things and systems in your past life to fit where you are now and serve you into the near future as well.

I love Brendon Burchard’s description of Congruence. My interpretation is that our internal stress arises from the fundamental concept that there is a disconnect between who we are being and who we see ourselves as. This clicked for me.

The Body is key to living better as well. I have been through crazy fatigue and physically limiting symptoms before. Some of my health is beyond my control and I have to change my expectations of my body. It also doesn’t mean that I can’t continue to strive to be in alignment with who I believe myself to be. I aim to be able to stand on the edge of a cliff as surefooted as I was as a child. Let me help you find a system that you can maintain with the effort and energy you have each day and leave you extra for healing and spending time with friends and family.

Spirit is most important. If I’ve taken anything away from being ill, it’s the importance of laughter and restorative downtime. I’m focusing on finding meaning and making strong friendships. I believe myself to be optimistic and calm in the face of chaos. I’m patient and I see each person as an individual. My Favorite Influences Right Now:

Below are some books that I have loved!

Books that changed my mind:

  • “The Charge” by Brendon Burchard
He’s written several books and there are a lot of carryover messages but I believe this is the book that spoke more in-depth about congruence. A friend recommended it and I dove into his books. I read this book at the height of my car accident recovery.
  • “The 5 Love Languages” by Gary Chapman
    • Gary Chapman is a phenomenal writer. When there are more people credited for writing, his books lose a bit of their magic. This book especially is short and described through storytelling. The stories directly apply to the information he’s sharing and are incredibly relatable. It’s a fantastic read. In case you’re wondering I’m a “Quality Time: Quality Activities” person.
  • “The Five Languages of Apology” by Gary Chapman
    • This book is inspired. I had already read several of his books when this one came out, but the topic was instantly intriguing to me. This title suggests, especially in the context of his previous books, that if you hit the one “language” for that person, you don’t need to do the other, which I don’t believe is his actual intention.
    • In this book, he gives you advice on how to teach children to apologize and what to expect of them by age. The book is primarily for adults though. Again it is storytelling based on explanations from the point of view of others as to why an apology feels insincere to them, even when it was sincere.
    • My main “language” is called genuine repentance. I remember it as actually changing. Not doing it again, etc. The one I neglect is “asking for forgiveness”. I didn’t realize this one was critical to some people.
  • “How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind” by Dana K. White
    • I believe this book went on sale and I scooped it up. It’s about gaining control of a house without daily habits.
    • When my sister and I were little she asked me “How do you start cleaning a room?” or something to that effect. I didn’t know how to answer her. Dana has done just that. She put into clear steps exactly what I was doing. For those who have no steady routine for tidying up their house, she outlines how to start from zero! And it is exactly what I’ve been doing all my life. Except, even better…
    • For those with loads of interruptions or inconsistent energy, she has a “no-mess method” that feels counterintuitive to anyone who’s ever done a decluttering and organizing project. However, I can tell you from experience that if you are doing it for yourself during your regular routine, this is without a doubt the method I would recommend for you to follow. I follow it in all my non-organizing declutter sessions and it is amazing!

I hope you find some use in my own stories or reach out if you’d like help to develop your space! Please reach out, I’d love to hear from you.
