How to Organize a Side-by-Side Freezer
Side-by-side freezers are notorious for narrow shelves where frozen food gets lost in an avalanche. Here is how to zone and bin them effectively.
The vertical side-by-side freezer is one of the most frustrating kitchen appliances ever designed. Narrow shelves mean bags of frozen vegetables and prepped meats constantly topple onto your toes.
The Zone Method
Treat each freezer shelf as a dedicated zone: - Top shelf: Quick breakfast items and breads - Second shelf: Prepped pre-cooked meats (labeled with blue painter's tape) - Third shelf: Raw meats in leak-proof bins - Bottom shelf/basket: Frozen vegetables and fruits - Door compartments: Ice packs, butter, and nuts
Using shallow plastic baskets allows you to pull the entire shelf out like a drawer to see what is in the back, rather than digging blindly through frozen boxes.
