Hall Closet Command Hooks have been working pretty well. The hooks used for the Sharps container have been a bit inconsistent and as the container fills up, they may drop. This is new so we’ll just see. You can see the full closet makeover in my previous post.
I do think that the next size up might work and have a higher weight allowance. I’m prepared with a backup plan if that doesn’t work. The container being different next time is a real possibility so I expect to go through three more iterations of ideas before I settle on exactly the right thing.
Large Hooks:
There is more clearance on the upper back side of my door so I wanted to take advantage of this. My sister told me about hanging First Aid kits like this so they are easily accessible (not behind a locked and busy bathroom) and this is out of the reach of young children because the items aren’t safe for them.
To the right, I hung a small flashlight for power outages and used a very heavy-weight hook so that it can handle this “rice” sock.
I’ve had zero issues with these two hooks. Once they were installed they stayed in place. It’s been great.
Hanging the Sharps Container:
I had two of these very small hooks. I believe they handle the least weight. They were purchased to hang potholders in the kitchen, which worked well. The challenge with this situation is trying to hook under the thin lip of the plastic container and cover the distance from the inset wood panel to where the lip hits. If the container gets pushed too far over it starts to pull away.
I think the limit with the small hook is .3 lbs and when this is full I imagine it will be too heavy. I have another Command Hook that has a metal hook but it’s a wire (0.5 lb capacity) and I have found a second one, which I’d need for this to work.
Both of the small hooks fell loose at different times. Somehow the container didn’t crash to the ground either time. Perhaps the shelf caught it.
The .3 lb hooks did not work so I’ve upgraded to the wire ones, as shown above, and so far so good.
What are your favorite ways to use Command Hooks?
