In this post, I’m just going to share some of my favorite bedroom products with you and discuss what made them so good and where the drawbacks are. These are mostly products that I’ve had in the past or products that I currently use and have had for at least a few months.
My Favorite Bedroom Products to add Storage:
Let’s start with items that add more storage to small spaces! My absolute favorite jewelry organizer was from JCPenney’s and had a photo collage on the front but a jewelry box behind it. It was the size of a large picture but not as large as a poster. It was a bit light on bracelet storage but worked very well for almost everything.
I can’t find it at JC Penney’s anymore but this is the product now available at Ashley Furniture and on Amazon below.
My sister worked at JCPenney’s at the time and my sister, my mother, and I all got one. They were available in dark brown and black at the time. I don’t think there was a white option.
Since then, I have upgraded to a mirror-sized cabinet. The downside is a weird alien-like glowing red button and the mirror is not perfectly flat so it has a bit of a funhouse warping to it. I do like the surrounding light but I had to get the wide mirror because of it. The bracelet storage is much better and now I can store eyeglasses, and small clutches in there.
Another fantastic purchase that I just got rid of, was an under-bed storage bedframe from Wayfair. It was reasonably priced and looked really good. Ultimately, I was able to reduce my belongings so that I didn’t need it and now the robot can get underneath and get all those dust bunnies. It’s also my hope that it will help the warm air circulate through the room in the winter. You can check out how I reduced my clothing and how I was using the drawers in my Clothing Organization series.
It held up well and I was able to resell it using Facebook Marketplace to offset another purchase there.
My Favorite Ways to Add Functionality:
My nightstands were from Wayfair as well. They had the most hilarious work instructions that were unnecessarily long. Truly ridiculous but kept me reading because they were funny. These nightstands are definitely not going to hold up to heavy wear and tear but have done perfectly well for what I needed.

They appear to be out of stock which is a common issue with Wayfair but they may come back. They fit well in a small bedroom and they were open so that my 12″ heat register could remain unblocked. I’ve now moved the bed, but I also love that I can put slippers in the hammock and don’t have to worry about the robot vacuum having trouble with it. I’ve also tucked power strips into them and other cords that I needed out of the way as well as heat pads.
Another of my favorites are The Container Store brand clothing boxes. The sweater, tall shoes, and tall sweater boxes are great. I use these primarily to store my off-season or off-size items, as discussed in a previous post, as they allow me to easily contain and see what I have. They are also one of the most reasonably priced items in the store and are typically included in sales. Additionally, the sweater box fits into standard drawers without a lid.
If you’d like to know more about my Elfa closet transformation, you can check that out here, but the price tag of this system keeps it from making the list. It did allow me to eliminate the need for a dresser though, so keep that in mind if you have a very small room and need to ditch clothing storage outside of the closet.
What I will discuss here, are the lights that I used after remodeling my closet. I have not had an electrician come in to add lights to my 1950s closets so they started with no light and the closet I glammed up was tucked away from windows so it was dark. The Elfa shelves I used were the wire type and so I was able to find these magnetic battery-operated, motion-sensing lights to illuminate my closet. It even worked on the hinges to illuminate it while I remodeled it.
They have been working great and they fade instead of just dying so I get a chance to use them before charging them. They charge with USB-3 and it charges fully in under 4 hours.
The last piece that I added to my room was a daylight wake-up light. It is Alexa enabled but does confuse Alexa as it has four alarm options, so when I say “Set alarm for …”, it confuses it with “Set alarm 4”. This light starts to brighten up prior to the actual alarm going off. However, it does not let you turn the chime off and still use the light. I would love that. But especially when you are trying to keep your room dark, this clock is a great tool to help you wake up gently.
I have tons of trouble with sleep and unfortunately. While it doesn’t fix my lack of sleep issues, it is a nice way to wake up, but it does technically start the process earlier in order to do it. It’s Alexa enabled for a hands-free option to light the room. You don’t need a bedside light because you can use the Alexa command to “turn on wake-up light” or “turn off wake-up light”. I believe it lets you adjust that default light intensity as well.

This Fix-A-Latch solution was super easy to use and allowed me to avoid replacing the kicked-out door frame.
