10 Trends to Try in Your Pantry

If you’ve been frustrated by your pantry getting out of order, here are 10 trends to try in your pantry! These are trends often seen in large pantry closets, but many of these work in small upper cabinets or large lower cabinets in the kitchen as well.

Drop Front Baskets

Drop-Front Baskets

Drop front baskets are booming!  You can get wire ones, water-hyacinth ones, and clear acrylic ones.  Whatever style fits your pantry, there are drop-front baskets for you.  These work well in spaces where you need to stack and are storing small individually packaged, yet ugly, items.  Kids’ snack packs, for instance.

Clear Canisters for Dry Goods

Most people love being able to see how much flour or rice is in their canisters which makes clear glass a great choice.  Limit to only the high volume and infrequently purchased items.  Decanting is a pain so you don’t want to be doing this with individually packed items or opening every box to put sub-packaging into unless that’s really your thing.

Tiered Can Shelves

Cans are not easy to use when they are stacked in a FIFO (First-in-First-out) container system and the weigh-down bins to the point of being useless.  However, tiered shelves can sometimes allow you to see enough of the label for those of us that have few cans of the same items and have a variety of them.

Pull Out Drawers in Lower Shelves

Pull-out Drawers

Have you seen kitchen cabinet pull-out shelves in kitchens for small appliances?  You can now do the same thing in larger pantries.  It’s trendy to have almost kitchen depth lowers with pull-out drawers in them for easier access.  This only really works in large pantry spaces.

Custom Cabinets for small appliance storage

You can install pull-out shelves that raise up to counter height as well for utilizing your appliance.  These are trendy in both the kitchen and pantry.

Counter Space inside the Pantry

Add some extended surfaces to your pantry so you can easily decant and put away groceries.  Having a bit of clear counter space can be a lifesaver in large pantries.  It also lets you pull things down to look through them.  Don’t forget how important workspace is if your pantry is separate from your kitchen!

Mini-Crate Storage

Utilizing shelf-sized wooden crates is all the raged for root veggies or liquid items.

Wire Baskets for Veggies or Paper Goods

Wire baskets in the same location as crates are also trendy.  These work for things that won’t fall through the holes such as paper products and root veggies.  They also work in freezers.

Bins with Wood Lids

Solid-colored bins with wood lids are trendy for storing packages of foods, such as Rice-A-Roni.

Deep-walled Lazy Susan for Corners

Lazy Susans were a favorite for upper blind corner cabinets for some time now.  They’ve upgraded with higher walls and now you can find them as one compartment or several to keep anything from sauces to tea bags.  Take your pick and utilize those dead corners with a lazy Susan!
