I’ve heard many people express what a nightmare it is to organize a side-by-side freezer. However, it’s my favorite style. Due to my food sensitivities, most of what I eat is kept in the freezer, so it must function very well. I love my side-by-side freezer.
The Problem with Organizing a Side-by-Side Freezer:
Side-by-side freezers tend to let things slide out as there is nothing to keep bagged items in place. Boxes can be stacked together will stay flat, but bags avalanche out when opening the door.
The Plan to Organize a Side-by-Side Freezer:
My refrigerator/freezer combo is counter-depth so I went searching for bins to help categorize products in the freezer. It turned out that these bins fit perfectly side-by-side in the counter-depth freezer.
The Process for Organize a Side-by-Side Freezer:
I organized the things that I was already storing into categories. I wanted to leave the top shelf free for freezing foods flat. The bottom drawers held flours and grains and didn’t need further organizing.
Occasionally, I have fully cooked meals, but I leave them on the top shelf. The bins need to hold raw ingredients: both cooked and uncooked meats, veggies, fruits, and cheeses.
The Solution to Organize a Side-by-Side Freezer:
After using the bins for a year, I finally made labels with my sister’s Cricut. Now my bins are clearly labeled, and my categories are set. I find that this volume of foods is appropriate for my diet and style of eating, including what’s typically in the fridge.
These bins fit most bagged veggies and meat packages. Even the vacuumed-sealed items fit well, and I can pull out the bin and glance down for what I want.
